Your pets' logbook
The Journal is your pets' news feed. You post news, photos and videos there, your sports activities can appear automatically, and your friends can react with likes and comments.
Each post is linked to one or more animals, so you have both a global feed (all your pets) and a logbook for each individual animal.
Opening the logbook
- Global feed: tap Journal in the button bar at the bottom of the screen. It gathers the posts of all your pets and those of the accounts you follow.
- An animal's logbook: open the animal's profile, then, in the Tracking block, tap Journal ("Notes, photos and daily moments").
- If the Journal button does not appear in your button bar, look for it under the More button (the three dots): you can rearrange the bar as you like.
Posting news
The writing area is at the top of the logbook, under the "What's new with your pets?" field.
- Choose the animal(s) concerned by tapping their badges (round photo) above the text field. A tick appears on the selected animals.
- Write your message in the What's new with your pets? field. On a phone, the microphone button lets you dictate the text.
- Add photos with the image button (up to 4 photos per post). On a computer, you can also drag and drop images into the writing area. Tap a thumbnail to crop or replace it, or the cross to remove it.
- Check the visibility (see below) with the button to the left of the image icon.
- Send with the paper plane button.
A post must be linked to at least one animal: with no animal selected, the app shows "No animal selected".
Lots of animals? The badges and the "…" button
With more than three animals, only three badges are shown, followed by a round … button:
- the badges show the animals already selected first, then those from the most recent posts in the feed;
- the … button opens the full list of your animals, with a search, tabs by species and the option to select or deselect them all;
- if some selected animals are not visible among the badges, the … button shows a "+N" counter.
In a litter's logbook, all the young still present are preselected.
Choosing who sees the post
The visibility button opens the Message visibility window with three choices:
| Choice | Icon | Who sees the post |
|---|---|---|
| Public, visible to everyone | Globe | Everyone, including on your website (public page) if it is enabled. |
| Friends, visible only to my friends | Two people | Your friends in the app. |
| Private, visible only to the animal's owner | Red bag | Only the animal's owner. |
The default visibility is set:
- in Son Espace Santé: menu, Profile, Preferences tab, Default visibility of publications setting;
- in the professional apps: Settings, Preferences, with a separate setting for litter posts.
This is only a default: you can always change the visibility when you post.
Photos and YouTube videos
- Tap a photo in a post to view it full size. Scroll through the photos with the arrows and double-click (or pinch) to zoom.
- To share a video, simply paste a YouTube link into the text of the post (regular video or "Short"). A thumbnail with a play button appears under the text once the post is saved.
- On a computer and on Android, the video plays in a window within the app. On iPhone and iPad, it opens in the YouTube app or in Safari.
- Vertical videos ("Shorts") are shown in portrait format.
Reacting: likes and comments
- Tap the heart under a post to like it. Tap the number of likes to see the Liked by list.
- Tap the number of comments to show the comments and write your own in the Write a comment... field.
- You can like a comment, and delete your own comments with the bin icon.
Editing, deleting or sharing a post
On your own posts, the three vertical dots button opens a menu:
- Share: creates a share image (for stories or messaging apps). The link to the post is only offered if it is public and your website is active; otherwise, the app offers Make it public and share.
- Update: reloads the text, animals and visibility into the writing area so you can edit them.
- Delete: deletes the post after confirmation.
After you post a public message, the app may offer to share it straight away ("What a lovely moment!").
Your activities in the logbook
Recorded activities (walk, run, bike ride…) can appear in the logbook as a card: activity type, distance, duration, route on a map, the animal's behaviour and a comment. Tap the card to open the activity details.
- The Automatically publish my activities in the journal setting (menu, Profile, Preferences tab, in Son Espace Santé) decides whether each new activity is posted. When it is off, your activities are still saved on the animal's profile but do not appear in the logbook.
- The Default visibility of my activities setting sets the audience proposed when an activity is posted.
- Each activity keeps its own settings: on its edit screen, the Publish in the journal switch lets you post it or remove it case by case.
- An unposted activity is marked Not published in the activity history, and its details say "This activity is not published in the logbook."
- Deleting an activity's logbook entry does not delete the activity: it is simply removed from the logbook and stays on the animal's profile.
For everything about recording activities, see the Activities page.
Friends and followed accounts
The global feed also shows your friends' posts and the public posts of the accounts you follow. Friends are managed on the Friends page (Friends button in the button bar or under the More button). On a friend's post, tap their profile picture to open their website (if they have one) or remove them from your friends.
See the Friends and invitations page to add friends and follow accounts.
Special cases
Professional apps
In the Breeder, Shelter and Boarding apps, posting to the shared logbook depends on your subscription. If your plan does not include it, the screen says that sharing news is a premium feature. Posts are then signed in the name of your organisation.
Archived animal
An archived animal's logbook can still be viewed but becomes read-only: a banner indicates that content creation is disabled.
Read-only access
If an animal is shared with you without edit rights, you can see its logbook but cannot post in it.
Frequently asked questions
My YouTube video does not show a thumbnail.
The thumbnail only appears once the post has been saved. Also check that the link really is a YouTube link: other video platforms are not supported.
Can I post a video from my phone?
The logbook accepts photos (4 at most) and YouTube links. For a video, first upload it to YouTube, then paste its link into your message.
