Setting up a GPS collar
The app guides you step by step to link your collar to your account. This page goes over the wizard's steps and helps you if the collar does not connect.
Opening the wizard
- From the menu, Tracking section, GPS entry: as long as you have no collar, the screen offers Set up a GPS collar. After that, use Add a collar in the "…" menu of the action bar.
- From an animal's profile: "…" menu in the action bar, Equip with a GPS collar.
- From My devices: Add, then GPS collar.
You can leave the wizard at any time: it picks up where you left off.
1. Choose the model
On the Which collar do you have? screen, tap your model. Don't have one yet? The I don't have a collar yet button shows the compatible collars and where to buy them.
2. Prepare the SIM card
- Use a SIM card in the size the collar requires (nano for the PT32), with a plan that includes mobile data: at least 10 MB a month, more if you often use Live.
- Disable the PIN code: first insert the SIM into a phone and disable the PIN code in its settings.
- Insert the SIM into the collar while it is switched off.
- Switch on the collar by holding the button for 3 seconds, preferably outdoors.
In the wizard, choose the Mobile operator of the SIM (Free, Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom) so the APN is filled in for you. For another operator, choose Other and enter the APN of your operator (you will find it on their support website).
The Phone number of the SIM in the collar is optional but handy: with it, the SMS messages in the next step open prefilled in your messaging app.
| Operator | APN |
|---|---|
| Free | free |
| Other operator | To be entered yourself (see your operator's website) |
3. Send the configuration text messages
From your phone, send the SMS messages shown by the wizard to the number of the SIM inserted in the collar, in order, waiting for the collar's reply before sending the next one.
- Each SMS can be copied with the copy icon.
- On a phone, the Open in Messages button opens the prefilled message: just tap Send.
For the PT32, the two SMS messages are, in this order (the APN is your operator's):
apn,123456,<your operator's APN>
IP gps.sonespacesante.com 8020
Depending on the model, the wizard may offer other SMS messages, for example to Unlock the collar before giving it the server address: always follow the list and order shown in the app.
The collar usually replies by SMS. Restart it if it asks you to. Then tap Next.
4. Add the collar to your account
- Enter the ID printed on the box: a sequence of 11, 12 or 15 digits, on the label, under the barcode.
- Choose the Animal wearing the collar.
- Give it a name if you like (Collar name (optional)), for example "Rex's collar".
- Tap Add the collar.
If the collar has already connected to our server, it is linked straight away. Otherwise, the addition is put on hold and confirmed automatically on its first connection, within 24 hours.
5. Wait for the first position
The wizard shows Waiting for the first connection…, then Collar connected, waiting for a GPS position…. This usually takes a few minutes with the collar switched on and outdoors: once connected, the collar switches to Live to send its position right away, then returns to standby by itself.
After 10 minutes with no result, the wizard shows some help, with the Send the SMS again and Troubleshooting guide buttons.
6. Done: create the Home zone
When the collar sends its first position, the wizard announces that your pet has been located and offers to Create the Home zone: a circle around your phone's current position (or, failing that, the collar's). You will be notified as soon as your pet leaves it.
- Choose the Radius: 50, 100 or 200 m.
- The Switch modes automatically option puts the collar in Standby at home and in Live as soon as it goes out, saving battery without you having to think about it.
- Tap Create the Home zone, or Later.
The View on map button then opens the GPS screen. What comes next is explained in Using GPS day to day.
Troubleshooting
- The collar does not connect: check that the SIM has network coverage and data credit, and that the PIN code is disabled. Check the APN, then send the mobile data SMS again.
- No reply to the SMS messages: switch the collar off and on again, and resend the SMS messages in order.
- Connected but no position: place the collar outdoors, under open sky, for a few minutes. Indoors, the position may be missing or approximate.
- "This ID is not valid": check the digits copied from the label on the box.
- "This collar is already linked to another account": its previous owner must first release it, from the collar settings (Release button).
- "Two accounts asked for this collar": contact us to link it to the right account.
- "Too many attempts": try again in an hour.
Changing SIM or operator
On the GPS screen, open Collar settings: the SIM card section lets you change the number and APN, and the Send the SMS again button gives you the configuration messages again.
