Community map
The community map brings together what users report around them: hazards for animals, lost animals, and places where dogs and horses are allowed or banned. It also shows vets, boarding facilities, shelters and breeders.
Opening the map
- The Map button in the button bar (or behind the "more" button).
- The side menu, Community section, Community map entry.
In the Breeder, Shelter and Boarding apps, the map is hidden from the button bar by default; you can show it again by customising the bar (see Settings).
The map can be viewed without an account. To add a point, comment or receive alerts, you need to be logged in; the directory layers (vets, boarding facilities, shelters, breeders) are only shown to logged-in users.
What the map shows
| Category | Types of point |
|---|---|
| Hazards | 🦠 Cyanobacteria, ☠️ Poison, 🐛 Processionary caterpillars, ⚠️ Other hazard |
| Lost animals | 🐾 Lost animal |
| Access allowed / banned | Dogs allowed, Horses allowed, No dogs, No horses |
| Directory | Vet clinics, Boarding facilities and pet sitters, Shelters, Breeders |
Zoomed out, the map shows a heat map of reports; zoom in to see each marker.
Filtering
The Filters button at the top right opens a panel where you tick or untick each type of point and each directory layer. Hide all / Show all applies to everything, and each category's All / None buttons apply to its types only; tap Done to return to the map.
The Locate me button in the action bar recentres the map on your position.
Reporting a hazard or a place
- Tap Add in the action bar.
- Tap the map at the exact spot of the report.
- Choose the Type of marker from the list.
- For a hazard: if possible add a Description and Photos (a photo helps confirm the hazard), then tap Publish.
Places where dogs and horses are allowed or banned are saved directly, without a form.
To report your own lost animal, go through its profile instead: the point is created on the map, the alert zones covering it are notified and you automatically follow its messages. See Lost animal.
Viewing a point
Tap a marker to open its details:
- a badge shows whether the report is Up to date or To be verified;
- It is still there confirms the hazard is still present and brings the report up to date;
- Advice (for cyanobacteria, poison and caterpillars) details the signs to watch for and what to do;
- Navigation gives the approximate address and opens directions in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze;
- Comments lets you talk with the community and add photos;
- the bell at the top of the details turns on notifications for new messages on this point;
- Share sends the point's link;
- Report this point flags it as inaccurate or inappropriate; its author can Delete it.
Reports that age
A hazard that is neither confirmed nor commented on switches to To be verified after 60 days, then disappears from the map automatically. Each confirmation or new message brings it up to date.
A lost animal disappears as soon as it is marked as found, or after 90 days without news.
Receiving alerts
Alert zones
- Tap Receive alerts at the top left of the map.
- In My alert zones, tap Draw a zone on the map.
- Tap the map to place the corners of the zone (your neighbourhood, your usual walks…), then tap Finish.
- Give the zone a name and save.
You receive a notification each time a new point (hazard or lost animal) is reported in one of your zones, including a lost animal reported from its profile. A zone can be deleted from the same window.
Proximity alerts
When the app is open on your phone and you pass near a reported hazard or lost animal, an alert appears.
Vets, boarding facilities, shelters and breeders
The directory layers bring together two kinds of listing:
Directory listings
Vet clinics, boarding facilities and pet sitters from external directories: contact details, services, directions. The note "Listing from an external directory" reminds you that it is not an app account.
Registered organisations
Registered boarding facilities, shelters and breeders that have chosen to place themselves on the map, recognisable by their verification badge. Their listing offers View the page and, for boarding facilities that accept it, Request a booking.
The community directory
At the top of the side menu, the Boarding, Breeder and Shelter shortcuts open the community directory: the list of organisations whose public page is active, with a search by name. Tapping an organisation opens its public page. Each list also offers direct access to the community map.
Frequently asked questions
I can't see any vets or boarding facilities
Check that you are logged in and that the matching layers are ticked in Filters. Also zoom in on your area.
A report is wrong or no longer exists
Open the point and tap Report this point, giving the reason if you wish; the report is reviewed by our team.
