Neutering

Neutering and Spaying Pets: Medical and Behavioural Issues

Updated 21 April 2026

Neutering is a common surgical procedure, yet an essential one, both for the individual animal's health and for managing pet populations as a whole. It brings many preventive benefits.

Health benefits

  • In females: prevents mammary tumours (if done early) and uterine infections (pyometra), and ends the stress of heat cycles.
  • In males: removes the risk of testicular cancer and reduces prostate problems.

Effect on behaviour

Neutering can reduce hormone-driven behaviours such as urine marking, territorial aggression between males and running away in search of a mate.

After the operation, use the app to:

  • Note the date the stitches come out in the calendar.
  • Track your pet's weight (neutering slows the metabolism and can lead to weight gain).
  • Keep the scanned surgical report so you can access it at any time.
