Vaccines
The Vaccines page holds your animal's vaccination record. You enter the injections, and for each disease the app works out whether your animal is protected, until when, and when the next booster is due.
Getting to vaccines
- Open the animal's profile (see The animal profile).
- In the Health block, tap Vaccines.
On the profile, the Vaccines row already sums up the situation: "Up to date", the number of "overdue" vaccines, or "No vaccine records found" if nothing has been entered yet.
Reading the record: one page per disease
A valence is the disease a vaccine protects against (for example rabies, or feline panleukopenia or cat flu in cats). At the top of the page, one button per valence lets you switch between them; a valence that is not up to date is flagged by its colour.
For each valence, a message sums up the status:
- "Congratulations, your vaccination is up to date."
- "Please note that your pet vaccination is currently not up to date."
- "Please note, your pet is not yet vaccinated."
The Description button shows an explanation of the disease (and Hide info closes it).
Below, a timeline shows each injection from birth ("Birth of …") to today, with:
- the vaccine name (the label) and a camera icon if you attached a photo of the passport;
- its rank: Injection #1, Injection #2… or Vaccine booster;
- its validity period, and the delay before protection takes effect. A first injection of the primary vaccination course does not protect on its own: you have to wait for the next injection;
- periods when the animal was not covered, shown in red.
Adding a vaccine
- Tap Vaccine in the action bar.
- Enter the Injection date.
- Optional: tap Take photo to attach the passport page.
- Choose the vaccine's Label (the name printed on the sticker in the passport) by searching for it in the list.
- Tap Add the injection.
A single label can cover several valences: the injection is then counted automatically in each of them.
Entering several vaccines at once
The … button in the action bar offers two bulk entry options, handy for copying a whole passport:
Vaccines from photo
Take a photo of the vaccines page of the passport. The vaccines are identified automatically, then you check and correct the list before saving it.
Multiple vaccines
Enter several vet visits by hand, each with its date and labels (Add a label / a vaccine, Add a vet visit).
In both cases, finish with Save the injections. Duplicate injections are ignored and the app tells you about them.
Editing or deleting an injection
Tap the update link under the injection concerned. Correct the date, label or photo, then tap Update the injection, or tap Delete to remove it from the record.
Overdue boosters
When a booster is given after the previous vaccine's validity has ended, the animal was not covered in between: the app shows this and normally considers that the schedule must start again from the beginning.
It is common, however, for a booster to be given a few days late without your vet restarting the schedule. In that case, tap ignore this delay: the injection is counted as a normal booster. You can go back at any time with don't ignore the delay.
Vaccine schedules and brands
Each vaccine brand has its own schedule: number of primary injections, delay before protection, time before the first booster and then between later boosters (1, 2 or 3 years depending on the vaccine and the valence). The app applies the schedule of the label you choose.
- Dogs: vaccines on the market are available by brand, each with its schedule.
- Cats: the main brands sold in Europe are offered with their actual schedules (panleukopenia, cat flu, feline leukaemia, rabies…). If you don't know the brand, generic labels by disease apply the most cautious schedule.
Booster alerts
There is nothing to schedule: based on the injections entered, the app sends you a "vaccine booster" notification:
- 60, 30, 15 and 7 days before a vaccine expires;
- on the day it expires;
- 7 days later, if the vaccine has expired.
Tapping the notification opens the animal's Vaccines page directly. No alert is sent for an animal that has died or been archived. In the list of animals, the Vaccines label also flags animals whose vaccination is not up to date.
To schedule the vet appointment, use the Calendar.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my animal "not up to date" when it has just been vaccinated?
After a first injection of the primary course, or during the immunity delay stated by the manufacturer, the animal is not yet considered protected. Also check that the previous injections have been entered.
Who can add vaccines?
The owner, and the people or team members allowed to edit the animal. With read-only access, the page can be viewed but has no add button. See Sharing an animal.
