Activities
Walks, canicross, CaniVTT (bikejoring), agility, tracking, horse work… The Activities screen keeps a record of all your pets' outings: distance, duration, elevation, weather, how it felt, photos, and even heart rate or pulling force if you use a sensor.
Opening activities
- From the menu, Tracking section, Activities entry.
- Or from the Activities button in the bottom bar, if it is one of your buttons.
In the Breeder, Shelter and Boarding apps, activities are hidden by default. To show them again, open Customize the bar and tap the eye next to the Activities entry.
Activity history
The Activity History screen lists your outings, from the most recent to the oldest.
- The animal selector at the top limits the list to one or more animals.
- The tags below filter by activity type (All, Canicross, Ride…).
- The icon at the top right switches between card view and table view.
- An activity kept out of the logbook is marked Not published.
Tap an activity to open its detailed view.
Adding an activity
Tap Add in the action bar. You have two options:
Record session
The app follows your position during the outing and works out the distance, speed and elevation itself.
Manual entry
You enter the date, distance and duration yourself, or import a GPX file from a watch or another app.
Recording an outing live
- Tap Add, then Record session. Allow location access if your phone asks.
- Choose the animals taking part with the selector at the top of the screen.
- Tap the play button to start. The badge changes from Ready to start to Recording.
- During the outing, the screen shows the stopwatch, distance (km), speed (km/h) and elevation gain and loss (m+ and m-).
- The pause button pauses the recording; tap it again to resume.
- Tap the stop button to finish. The activity form opens with a summary of the Session recorded: all that is left is to choose the activity type, add details if needed and tap Save.
In the mobile app, recording continues when the screen is locked. If you close the recording screen before starting, the app asks you to confirm the cancellation.
Filling in the activity form
Activity
- Animals: the animals that took part.
- Activity type: the list adapts to the species. For a dog: Ride, Canicross, CaniVTT, Agility, Pistage, Ring, Competition, Other. For a horse: Ride, Flatwork, Jumping, Lunging, Competition, Other.
- For activities with a route (Ride, Canicross, CaniVTT, Pistage, Competition), when entering manually, choose Manual entry to enter the Activity date, Distance (km), Elevation gain (m), Elevation loss (m) and Duration, or GPX to Import GPX file.
Conditions
- Weather: Sun, Shade, Cloudy, Light rain, Heavy rain, Snow, Night (several choices possible).
- Activity temperature (°C) and Humidity.
- The section's automatic button fills in the weather from your position: this requires an internet connection and location access.
How it felt
- Activity difficulty, from 1 to 5.
- Animal appreciation, from a sad face to a delighted one.
- Animal behavior (for a dog): free text.
Notes and photos
- For canicross, CaniVTT and tracking: Activity harness and Is the dog tethered?
- Free Comment.
- Photos: 4 images at most.
Posting in the logbook
The Publish in the journal switch decides whether the activity appears in the logbook. When it is off, the activity stays on your pet's profile without being posted. When it is on, choose its Activity visibility in the logbook: Private, Friends or Public. See Logbook and pack.
An activity's detailed view
At the top, the view shows the activity type, animals and date, then the key figures: duration, distance, elevation, average speed and pace (min/km).
- Conditions: weather, temperature, humidity, difficulty and the animal's appreciation.
- Map: the route of the outing, when there is one.
- Speed Chart (km/h): the horizontal axis can show Distance or Duration. Tap a label (Speed, Cardio, Force, Power, Elevation) to show or hide the corresponding curve.
- With a heart rate belt: average, maximum and minimum rate.
- With a dynamometer: average force and peak force, then pulling power (average, 3-second peak, session load, power per kilo and cardiac cost).
- Notes and Photos entered in the form.
Actions on an activity
The Actions button in the action bar groups together, depending on the activity and your rights:
- Share: an image ready to post on social media (see below).
- Export GPX: the track, for another app.
- Export ECG + data: when an ECG signal was recorded during the outing.
- Crop: cut the start or end of the track.
- Edit and Delete.
When an ECG was recorded during the outing, an ECG button opens the trace. See Heart rate.
Cropping a track
Forgot to stop recording when you got back in the car? Cropping removes the extra parts.
- Open the activity's details, then Actions and Crop.
- Move the start and end sliders to keep only the part you want.
- Confirm: the app shows the old and new distance and duration, and asks for confirmation before saving.
Cropping requires an internet connection and only works on a timestamped track (recorded live or imported with its timings).
Sharing an activity on social media
From the details of one of your activities, Actions then Share generates an image in the app's colours: the track or one of your photos, the key figures and your pet's name. Nothing is posted until you share the image.
- Scroll through the variants with Previous and Next (one per photo, plus one with the track).
- Choose the format: Story, Square, Portrait or Landscape.
- On a phone, the Share to Instagram story and Share to Facebook story buttons appear if these apps are installed; the other button opens the phone's usual share menu. On a computer, the image is downloaded.
A link to the activity comes with the image only if the activity is posted in the logbook with Public visibility and your public page is active. Otherwise, only the image is shared.
Right after a public activity is saved, the app offers this sharing automatically ("What a great outing!"). If you do not want it, tap Don't suggest this again.
Protecting your home address
In Son Espace Santé, the Hide the start and end of my GPS tracks option hides the first and last 200 metres of your tracks when someone else views your activities. You always see your full track. You will find it in the menu, Account section, Profile, Preferences tab.
Activities recorded by a GPS collar
If your pet wears a GPS collar linked to the app, you can also start an activity from the GPS screen, or create an activity from its position history. See Using GPS day to day.
Tracking a dog's mobility: the LOAD assessment
For dogs, the health section of the animal's profile also offers the Arthritis & Mobility (LOAD) entry. LOAD is a 13-question questionnaire, developed by the University of Liverpool, that helps spot and monitor signs of arthritis based on what you observed over the past week.
- The resulting score is rated Mild (up to 10), Moderate (up to 20), Severe (up to 30) or Extreme.
- The Mobility score screen keeps all assessments and plots their Mobility evolution.
- In Son Espace Santé and Breeder, the home screen suggests the first assessment from the age of 1, then reminds you to repeat it every year (every 6 months from the age of 10). You can also state there that your dog has no mobility problems, or ask not to be prompted again.
This assessment does not replace an examination: discuss the results with your vet.
