Managing your litters
A litter brings together a father, a mother and their young. You can create it as soon as the mating is announced, then follow it at every stage: birth, weighings, care, reservations, sales and the young ones leaving.
All the information stays attached to the litter, even after the young have left: weight curves, calendar, invoices and profitability.
Accessing your litters
- Open the side menu, Management section, then Litters.
- Or tap the Litters button in the button bar, if it is one of your buttons.
- On the Homepage, ongoing litters appear next to your animals in the selector at the top: choose a litter to reach the Litter and Weight shortcuts.
The list shows each litter with its year, the father and mother, and its state: Litter ongoing or Litter finished.
Creating a litter
- In the list of litters, tap Add in the action bar.
- Under The parents, tap Choose the father then Choose the mother.
- If you know them, enter the Mating date and the Birth date: they are optional and can be filled in later.
- Enter the Year of the litter and, if you wish, a Description (goals, expected results…). The Reformulate button suggests an improved version of your text.
- Tap Save.
The mating date and the birth date automatically create the matching events in the litter's calendar. When all the young have left, tick Litter is closed in the litter form.
The litter page
When you open a litter, you see the parents, the description and a list of sections:
| Section | What you will find there |
|---|---|
| The young | The list of young, their status and the sale actions. |
| Weight curves | The growth chart for the whole litter and the weight-gain alerts. |
| Calendar | The events of the parents and the young during the litter period. |
| Logbook | Notes, photos and everyday moments of the litter. |
| Pedigree | The family tree of the future young. |
| LOF litter | The deadlines for declaring the litter to the SCC (see Heats and breeding). |
| Progesterone tests | Shown when the litter was created from a tracked heat cycle. |
| Waiting list | Requests that match the litter, as long as it is not closed (see Puppy waiting list). |
| Profitability | Income, expenses and margin of the litter, for members who have access to accounting. |
At the top of the page, the Litter card lets you share this moment on your social networks. If your website is active, you can also copy or share the litter's link. The Update button in the action bar reopens the litter form.
Adding and following the young
- Open the Young section.
- Tap Add a child in the action bar.
- Fill in the young one's profile step by step, then tap Finish adding the animal.
Each young one shows its age, its latest weight with the change since the previous weighing (in green if the weight goes up, in red if it goes down), and a status badge:
- Is available: no buyer has reserved it yet;
- Is reserved or Reserved by followed by the buyer's name and the price;
- Record sent then Record handed over once you have handed the health record over to the buyer;
- Kept by breeder if you keep the young one, or Transferred if it has changed owner;
- Ready to leave or the number of items still missing from the departure checklist.
Under each young one, the Weight, Checklist, Adoption / Sale and Update buttons give access to its weighings, its departure checklist, its sale and its profile.
Weighing the whole litter at once
- Open the Weight curves section, then tap Add weighings. From the Homepage, a litter's Weight shortcut opens this entry screen directly.
- Choose the Date of weighing.
- Enter each young one's weight. The previous weight is shown next to the field ("prev."). If you have not weighed a young one, leave its field empty.
- Tap Save.
Weight curves and alerts
The Weight curves section shows one curve per young one on the same chart, then the Weight evolution (kg) table with all the weighings.
Weight-gain alerts
A young one is flagged when its average daily weight gain is at least 20% below the litter average (stronger alert beyond 30%), or when it has lost weight between its last two weighings.
Collar colour
Tap the colour dot in front of a young one's name and choose its collar colour from 15 common colours: its curve takes on that colour. Default colour restores the automatic colour.
Weight tracking for an adult animal is described in Weight tracking.
The litter's calendar
The Agenda section gathers all the events of the father, the mother and the young, from the creation of the litter until it is closed (or until today if it is ongoing), from newest to oldest. A filter lets you show a single animal; tapping an event opens it.
The Add button opens the list of litter stages, in cycle order: Heat start, Heat end, Mating, Pregnancy ultrasound, Whelping, Weaning, Microchipping, First vaccination, Litter vet visit, Handover, as well as Add an appointment and Add an event for everything else.
- The event type, the animals concerned (the mother, the parents or the young) and today's date are already filled in; you can change everything before saving.
- Each stage exists only once per litter: if it has already been entered, the card shows its date and opens the existing event so you can correct it.
- Mating and whelping stay in sync with the litter's dates: moving the event updates the litter, and vice versa.
- For a closed litter, an event dated after the closing date will not appear in this section.
For your animals' general calendar, see Calendar & care.
Reserving, invoicing and selling a young one
A young one's Adoption / Sale button opens its sale journey. Only the actions available at that point are offered:
- Mark as reserved: enter the sale price, the currency and a comment. No field is mandatory.
- Designate the future owner: choose a user who has an account ("Yes, they have an account") or enter their details ("No, I'll enter their details"). You can also choose I keep this puppy at home.
- Once the owner has been designated: Generate a contract (reservation or sale contract, pre-filled), Invoice a deposit, Invoice the sale (deposits already invoiced are deducted), Hand over to the new owner or Cancel the reservation.
Invoices are created as Draft in the accounting: you complete them, validate them and send them from their page (see Invoices and Accounting). The young one's documents are listed directly on this screen.
If the buyer has no account, Mark as sold removes the young one from the list of young in animal selections, without deleting it. Handing over the health record by email and the departure checklist are detailed in Registers and transfers.
Litter profitability
The Profitability section summarises the invoices attached to the litter:
- income, Expenses and Margin;
- the Reserved, not invoiced amount and the Forecast margin when young ones are reserved;
- what has been Collected and what is Awaiting payment;
- the Invoiced per young one breakdown (a young one without an invoice appears as Not invoiced);
- the list of Invoices attached to this litter, each opening its own page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I create a litter before the birth?
Yes. The mating and birth dates are optional: enter them when you know them.
Does a sold young one disappear from the litter?
No. Even after the health record has been handed over, the young one stays in the litter, which keeps the weight curves, the calendar and the profitability.
The father does not belong to my kennel, what should I do?
Record the mating with an outside male from the female's profile, then create the litter from that mating. See Pedigree and studs.
