Adding and editing an animal

Son Espace SantéBreederShelterBoarding

Everything starts with your animal's profile: its name, species, date of birth and a few identity details. Once the animal is created, you can track its vaccines, treatments, weight, documents and much more.

Where do you add an animal?

  1. Tap the Pets button in the button bar at the bottom of the screen (Boardings in the Boarding app).
  2. Tap Add an animal in the action bar, just above.
  3. If you don't have any animals yet, the page shows the Add my first pet button directly.
Tip: in a professional space, only members allowed to edit animals (or administrators) see the add button. See Members and permissions.

The add wizard, step by step

In the Son Espace Santé, Breeder and Boarding apps, you add an animal with a wizard of a few screens. A progress bar at the top shows where you are, the Next button moves to the next step and the left arrow goes back.

Welcome screen: choose your method

Manual Entry

You fill in the information yourself, step by step.

Voice Assistant

You describe your animal out loud (name, date of birth, weight, species, breed, kennel name, microchip and passport numbers…) and the app fills in the form for you. Only available on a phone, and not in the Boarding app.

Step 1 — "First things first"

  • Add a photo: tap the circle to take or choose a photo, then crop it.
  • Official Name: required.
  • Species: required. Choose Dog, Cat, Rabbit, Horse or Other to open the full list with a search.

If you add the photo before choosing the species, the app analyses the image and suggests the species and breed. You can always correct them.

In a professional space, shortcuts for species your organisation doesn't use are hidden (species are set in the organisation's settings).

Step 2 — "Tell us more"

  • Birthday: required. An approximate date is enough if you don't know the exact date.
  • Breed: free text (e.g. Labrador, Siamese…).
  • Gender: Male or Female.

Step 3 — "Almost done!"

This information is useful but optional:

  • Chip number (15 digits). The field does not appear for an animal less than two weeks old, which is not yet identified.
  • Weight, in the unit chosen in your settings. Above 50 kg, the app asks whether you entered the weight in grams and can convert it for you.
  • Description: its character, its habits… The Enhance button suggests reworded versions of your text, from which you choose.

Tap Finish: the animal's profile opens.

Step 4 — "Boarding details" (Boarding)

In the Boarding app, the wizard adds a fourth step to record the stay at the same time as the animal:

  • Start date and End date (required); the number of days is shown automatically (arrival day and departure day included).
  • Daily rate (€), Discount (%) and Boarding comment.
  • The Owner's contact details (first name, last name, phone, email, address).
  • The Personal belongings left with the animal (lead, toy, medicine…), with a photo for each. If you add a photo without a description, the app suggests one.
  • Extra services charged on top of the stay (grooming, medication, transport…), with unit price and quantity.

If your subscription has reached its maximum capacity for the period, a message tells you so. For full stay management, see Boarding stays.

After adding: your first reminders (Son Espace Santé)

When you add your very first dog or cat in the Son Espace Santé app, a "One more thing" screen offers to set up two reminders in a few seconds:

  • Flea and tick protection (dogs and cats);
  • Nail Trimming (dogs only).

Enter the date of the last treatment (today by default): the date of the next reminder is calculated and shown straight away. Tap Save reminders, or Skip for now if you would rather do it later from the Calendar.

Specifics of professional spaces

Shelter

Adding an animal opens the full profile directly, organised into tabs: General, Public info. (date of arrival at the shelter, visibility on the website, availability for adoption, kennel, foster family, history, character, compatibility with others, adopter profile), Intern info. (category, special diet, health) and Walk (biter, park outings, compatibilities, equipment, instructions). See Shelter animals and statuses.

Breeder

When you add a young animal from a litter, the species is taken from the parents and is not asked for, and the time of birth can be entered. See Litters.

Several activities

If your organisation has several activities (shelter, breeding, boarding) and the app you are using matches none of them, you are asked "Which activity is this animal for?" when saving.

The first time you open a professional space, the setup wizard also offers a "Your first animals" step (breeders and shelters) to quickly enter a few animals as rows (name, species, sex, date of birth), or "Your first stay" for boarding facilities. Everything else is completed afterwards on the profile. See Creating your pro space.

Editing an animal's profile

  1. Open the animal's profile (see The animal profile).
  2. Tap Update in the action bar.
  3. Change the information, then tap Save.

The full form contains more fields than the add wizard:

SectionFields
Identifying your animalPhoto, official name as it appears in the passport, nickname, kennel name or affix, microchip number, passport number, sex, date of birth. For a male: "Is a stud of the kennel".
Species and breedSpecies, breed. For a dog: category (category 1, category 2 or not categorised). For a dog or cat: LOF / LOOF registration, confirmation and test results (dysplasia, PRA, vWD, paternity…). In the Breeder app: LOF No.
DescriptionFree text, with Reformulate to get suggestions and Dictate for voice input.
Boarding details (Boarding)Dates, comment and stay history.

Deleting an animal

From the edit screen, tap Delete (on the left in the action bar) and confirm. For a young animal from a litter, the app suggests instead handing its health record to the buyer (Breeder) or transferring it to a new owner without an account, before deleting it permanently.

An animal that has died, been sold or that you no longer follow doesn't need to be deleted: record its death or archive it to keep its history. See Death and archiving.

Frequently asked questions

I don't know the exact date of birth.

Enter an approximate date: it is used to calculate age and vaccination schedules. You can correct it later.

Tap Other and search for it in the full list.
