Animal statuses at the shelter
Each shelter animal has a single status that says where it stands: arrived, in quarantine, adoptable, in a foster family, reserved, adopted… This status decides what is shown on your public website, triggers reminders and feeds your statistics.
The statuses
| Status | Meaning | On the public website |
|---|---|---|
| Arrived | The animal has just entered the shelter; nothing has been decided yet. This is the status of a newly created animal. | Hidden |
| Quarantine | Health isolation with an end date (14 days by default). | Hidden |
| Adoptable | Ready to be adopted. | Shown as available for adoption |
| Foster family | Placed with a foster family; remains adoptable unless you untick Still proposed for adoption. | Shown if still offered for adoption |
| Reserved | An adoption is under way. | Shown as reserved |
| Adopted | The animal has left with its adopters. | Hidden |
| Returned after adoption | The animal came back after an adoption and starts the journey again. | Hidden |

Viewing and changing an animal's status
Open the animal's profile (Animals button in the button bar). The status block, next to the weight, shows the status, for how many days, the end of quarantine, the foster family, the register number and, where applicable, the number of sponsors. The ? button opens the Shelter statuses help.
- Tap Change the status.
- Choose from the statuses offered: only those that can follow the current status are shown.
- Add a Note (optional). For a quarantine, check the suggested End of quarantine date.
- Confirm.
Choosing Foster family opens the Place in foster family screen (see Foster families); choosing Adopted opens Complete the adoption (see Online adoption). For a reserved animal, Prepare the adoption brings together the adopter, the invoices and the documents.
The clock icon in the block shows the status History, with the date, the note and the author of each change.
The order of statuses
- Quarantine is optional: an arrived animal can go straight to adoptable or to a foster family.
- Adoptable and foster family can alternate; both can be reserved.
- Transferred and dead can be set from any status and are final.
- The "for N days" counter restarts from zero at each status change.
Automatic changes
You do not have to enter twice what you have already done: reserving an adoption switches the animal to Reserved, completing the adoption or seeing the health record accepted by the adopter switches it to Adopted, a foster placement switches it to Foster family, and recording a death switches it to Dead.
The animal list by status
In Animals, a selector filters the list by status, with the number of animals in each: At the shelter (all animals present), Arrived, Quarantine, Adoptable, Reserved, Foster family, Adopted or All. Each animal has a status badge.
Quarantine and long stays
Quarantine
The end date is suggested when the animal enters quarantine and can be changed animal by animal. The day before the end, the team receives a reminder.
Long stays
An animal that has been adoptable or in a foster family for more than 90 days (by default) gets a badge with the number of days, as a reminder to give it more visibility.
On the Homepage, the To process block groups together the ends of quarantine, animals that arrived several days ago without a decision and long stays, with the date they were last promoted and a Share button.
Setting the durations
Open Settings (side menu, Organization section), then under My shelter choose Stays at the shelter:
- Default quarantine duration (days): suggested when an animal enters quarantine;
- Long stay alert after (days): beyond this, the animal appears among the long stays.
The cost per animal
In Settings, My shelter block, the Cost per animal line explains how the app calculates what each animal costs: it adds up the lines of supplier invoices, treatments and procedures assigned to it.
Turn on Share unassigned costs according to days of presence to also spread what is not assigned to any animal (food, litter, electricity…). Example: €300 of food over a month, an animal present 10 days out of 100 animal-days in total: €30 is added to its cost. The See the costs in the statistics button opens the details (see Statistics).
The shelter tracking page
The Tracking page (at the top of the side menu, or the Tracking button in the button bar; reserved for administrators and volunteers) has two uses:
- recording your presence with Register my entry to the shelter and Record my exit from the shelter;
- viewing the day's log: walks, meals, care, remarks, entries and exits, which can be filtered by date, by action and by animal or volunteer.
Walks, meals, care and remarks are recorded in one gesture from the animal's profile or by scanning the QR code on its kennel (see Volunteers and scheduling). Walk tracking only appears if your shelter takes in dogs.
Frequently asked questions
Why does an animal not appear on my website?
Only animals that are Adoptable, Reserved or in a Foster family and still offered for adoption are shown. Also check that the profile does not say Hidden from the public site.
I cannot see the status I want to choose.
Statuses follow an order: you can only move to the statuses listed under "Next" in the help. For example, an animal in quarantine must go through adoptable or foster family before being reserved.
